Had some buddies come up to learn to fish yesterday and we headed off to the West Carson. I have driven past the WC many times, but never fished it until yesterday. Pretty little river for sure. After a kind of slow start we started getting into fish. We even had a hatch of largish light colored mayflies around 1 or so. My two new fly fishing friends landed 1 and 3 fish, their first on flies. Pretty cool stuff. I landed a grand slam... brookie, brown, rainbow, which was fun as well.
We then went to a private pond that I got permission to fish and had a lot of fun catching Large Mouth Bass and Bluegill. Lots and lots of fun doing that and my two buddies racked up more fish to hand and new species on a fly rod. I threw some deer head/rabbit fur streamer and was really amazed at how lifelike it was... it really swam like an injured bait fish. The fish agreed and I must have landed 30... what a great, great day!
Happy Fathers' Day!
