After the gauntlet was thrown down by the thread started by Charlie S. and aptly replied to by Bjorn, I decided to do something about it. I don’t post about all of my fly fishing trips, but I had a memorable trip last weekend, so here’s my latest contribution to the board:
In my quest to catch all of the California heritage trout, I took a trip down South to the Kern River area to catch two more species of trout that are unique to our fine state.
The Kern River Canyon from a ridgeline
Some peaks in the Little Kern River drainage
The Little Kern River. Still kind of high, but still very fishable
A Little Kern River Golden Trout
Another shot of the Little Kern River from my campsite
So much potential for many miles of good fishing behind this sign
The Kern River Still running high, but at least it was clear (but COLD!)
A Kern River Rainbow Trout
It’s hard to be cagey and elusive about where I was (which is my usual modus operendi), when the trout carry the name of the stream in which they’re found, but I’m not saying HOW I got there, or where I fished, but it did involve some hiking.
It sounds like too many posters on this board often pine for the “good old days” of the NCFFB, those days of flames, low blows, muckraking and hot, steaming piles of manure that had nothing to do with fly fishing. I’ve been a lurker and occasional poster for over six years, and I’ve seen the board change a lot in that period of time, but I think that if folks pitch-in, ask questions, post reports, answer questions, and share advice, it can be rebuilt and hopefully be as vibrant and lively as it once was...in a positive way. I plan on doing my share to make that happen.
Cheers!
