Hey, don't forget the Conch Fritters! Yeah, lunch was RULING. There were two downsides to Bernard... first was his constant need to tell us how Bahamian men treat their women/wives and children... this often includes use of a "screamer" or open handed slap. He seemed very sure that God gave man dominion over women and that it was very important to exercise that by telling her to shut up, what to wear and when to leave him alone. The second downside was the motor on the boat... had some issues... it was a loaner boat as his own engine had problems. Man he knew where the fish were. Poling along in the mangrove cuts was very much like drifting down a river. The current would move us along and we'd cast into fish. It was pretty ruling.
I think that Grand Bahama is pretty underrated as far as a bonefish destination. I have to say though that the only other place I've been is Kauai, which is not exactly a bonefish mecca. The fish were bigger than I thought they'd be and having a 7.5 pounder make a run across a flat is kind of a religious experience.
