Joey had won a Sturgeon fishing trip at the Sac ISE show last year and we went last Sunday the 12th. We went out with Captain Kev of Lucky Strike charters. Western Outdoor News (WON) had a representative who happens to be the rep for Seeker Rod Company and he brought his son along. It was windy and never let up the who day. We had brought a couple 7 wts in case we had a chance for Stripers but it never happened. We fished very close to the Pittsburg marina area and Joey had a hook-up in 30mins at our first location.
It was his first Sturgeon and measured about 48". He had never hooked anything that big so we had to keep a hold of him and the rod just to be safe. He brought it in all on his own and was a happy camper. It was rough out there and Joey got a little woozy but did not get sick. The bite was very sutle and only lasted about a second or two and they were gone. We pretty much sat in chairs due to the wind and by the time we got up to set hook they were gone. We only hooked one more Sturgeon about 30 mins before we headed in for the day. It was my fish and I fought it for about 30 mins before we landed it. It taped out at 90" and I have no Idea what it weighed (160-200lbs). All I know is that we both landed out biggest fish ever on that trip. I have to say it was a challenge to hold onto that rod when it made its run. Here's a few picks from the trip.

Ever wonder how big the blades are on those power generating Windmills?

Overall it was a great trip and we had a great time. If your interested in chasing Sturgeon give Capt Kev a call. If you get WON they may have an article about our trip.

Tight Lines.
