South Fork of the Stan? 15 Years, 3 Months ago
I will be on a trip through the central valley in mid May. I've heard that the south fork of the Stanislaus river and Beaver Creek (north fork of the Stan trib.) are good early season streams. Anyone ever fished these stream? Thanks for your help.

Mike,

VERY limited experience, but the So Fork is supposed to be decent early. It's a tail water below Beardsley so the flow is somewhat moderated in that stretch.

North fork has some nice tribs up in the big park that's up there. Caught a few trout up there some years ago while visiting Oakdale. There are also a few spot around Knight's Ferry east of Oakdale.

If you go, pls report back.

Both stretches of water can be accessed from Board's Crossing road out of Dorrington, above Arnold on Hwy 4.
The road is paved down to the S. Fork, but becomes a dirt logging road as you head to B. Creek.

The river is more challenging because it gets a lot of traffic. The creek is a small stream, small fish, usually pretty productive. Different types of water up and down, some slow, some pocket water. Beautiful place.

Our tradition is that of the first man who sneaked away to the creek
when the tribe did not really need fish.
