Lurking and most memorable fish of 2009 15 Years, 6 Months ago
I feel like I've been lurking too much this year. Probably since I haven't done any fishing since summer. Anyways I'm sitting in the phoenix airport waiting for my flight to mexico. I'm reading a book someone gave me a few years back. It's called Sex, Death and Fly Fishing. I remember enjoying it the first time I read it, and I'm equally entertained this time around. The author is John Gierach. Check it out if you haven't read it!

I'm posting a picture of my most memorable fish of the year. It was caught in Montana in a private spring creek next to the Yellowstone near Livingston. It's my most memorable because of the dry fly grab, the effort it took to bring in, and because the fish was so damn beautiful.

Nice fish! Montana is such a great place: great fishing, beautiful scenery and so many good memories of my trips there.

Yeah, Gierach is a definite favorite of mine, I've read all his books, except for the one on fishing bamboo, because...well...I don't. His books are a great way to get through the winter doldrums, fly fishing-wise, anyhow.

Have a great time in Mexico. Doing any fishing? Surfing? Cerveza consumption?

Ħsalud!

Sweet fish. Never have fished those Spring Creeks. They are on my list, as are Gierach's books.

No fishing or surfing this time around. I'm actually in central mexico visiting my girlfriends family. They live in queretaro, which is a 3 hour drive from mexico city.

Last time i was in mex was to surf and now I realize I really didn't experience mexico. Did you know... EVERYONE here speaks spanish? But the beers are cheap and there are plenty of two for one deals! Happy new year!!

Montana Coincidentally, I talked my wife into doing a road trip/FF trip to Montana
this summer with her, my 13 yr old boy, and his buddy. Going to head our way
to Wyoming (and fish), thru Colorado (and fish), then home. Taking two weeks
to do it.

Soooo. I will be picking your brains when the time comes, if you care to share.
I'm hoping to hit less known places with some solitude. If that is possible.

We are thinking about renting a very small sized motor home. Just have to
figure out the cost vs staying in a motel. Oh and then there is the gas.

Anybody done the motor home thing? I would think it would be reasonable nowadays.

Mexico is a great place, indeed. I've heard that rumor about people speaking Spanish down there too. Makes ya wonder...
Too bad about the lack of waves or angling this trip, but getting a feel for a country from a local's POV is really worth it. Best way to travel.

Have a prosperous and Happy New Year!

Here is my most memorable fish of 09. It was the biggest and the first I caught in Cali for the year. A lovely Brown caught on an olive wooly bugger in Almanor. Anglernut...the Little Big Horn in eastern Wyo can be an awesome time. It's lightly fished and has some big Rainbows. Check it out.

Thanks ODoyle..I'll be scouring the maps this summer before
setting out on the excursion. Adding the Little BH to the list
