Bonefish information 15 Years, 6 Months ago
I'm considering going after some bonefish in Florida and was wondering if anyone here has any information they can share. Is there a friendly source of information out there I can tap in to? Any forums or guides I can contact? TIA

Good one Sarge. That is one rough place for sure. I made a mistake in using the guide's name and I felt bad about that in retrospect. But the rest of it, just total bullshit and how the treat anyone new. Friendly place. You'd do well over there.

If you really are looking for information on Bonefish in FL, I have a couple of guys that seem like good sources. Where you going to be fishing? Miami? Upper Keys? Lower Keys? Seems to make a pretty big difference in the catch rate.

I talked to one guide out of Miami who said he has a 90% failure rate for bones. Another, Lower Keys guide says he averages 2-3 a trip.

FL seems pretty tough. A lot of the advice I got was to target cuda's instead of bones.

There was also a really good thread recently on Blanton's board about FL guides. Worth a read.

"Somehow I get the feeling this welcome wagon thing aint working." Great line!

That was refreshing, thanks for linking that up. A flyfishing board with a little life - what a wonderful idea.......

Thanks for the link Sarge...those are some funny folks over there. Bjorn, I hope your medical insurance covers that kind of beating. I appreciate the advice too. On a side note, SARGE, have you heard from the Kerr brothers lately? I heard Wayne was back in town.

That place starts with hostility and it gets worse from there. Good god... makes the NCFFB lashings I've had look like bug bites.

As for FL... whatever guide you end up with, make sure to ask lots of questions about what you can expect. I was just about to book a trip to Miami when I got that 90% failure rate... switched to the Bahamas. However, if I had talked to Luke Kelly first, I may have just booked with him as 2-3 average is really a great strike rate for FL and FL fish are BEEG.

That was like a boxing match where the winner pulled the trainer and cut man into the ring and beat the hell out of them too. I think the referee even got in a few punches. If that had been a real fight, Bjorn could have made a fortune in advertising - by selling space on the bottoms of his shoes.

I really get a kick out of Slo's new board name over there. He's having way too much fun!!!

I got together with Wayne, Stan, Ken and Poe lastnight for dinner. It was good to see those guys again.

Yeah... it was a lot of fun.

Does put this board into perspective a bit... the folks that I thought were Aholes here turn out to be good natured folk with whom I have minor disagreements.
