Need info on Lakes Basin area 16 Years, 5 Months ago
I am thinking about heading up that way as I have not really fished that area, so any info on Camping and fishing would be a great help. I will be towing a 24 ft travel trailer that I need to park someplace.

My limited research suggest Sardine Lake might be a good base camp.

TIA

Paul

When you going to be there Carpy? I will be there on Friday to Sunday this weekend. Know it like the back of my hand......email for details. I can suggest some lakes depending on your interests......drive in vs short hike in.

Carpy-
To start off it is not the Gold Lakes Basin, just the Lakes Basin.I hear that a lot and it bugs me cuz I live up here. The Lakes Basin CG and the Sardine Lake CG would be the best choices for a trailer of your size.Sardine lake has boat rentals but is also very float tube friendly.Fish near the inlet or near the color change pulling buggers on a sinking line.Upper Sardine is a 1/2 mile hike on a rough 4x road(can be driven on ,but not much room to turn around) and offers exceptional scenery and decent fishing for Kamloops rainbows. The salmon lakes can offer decent fishing with Lower Salmon being a hike in lake.Gold has been planted recently and is kicking out good numbers of cookie cutter rainbows in the 12-14" range.Snag Lake can be fun this time of year.If you are feeling really adventurous Young America is a tough hike in but is loaded with willing brookies and rumors of the state fish(altho I've never caught any here).Lastly there is always the North Yuba for wild rainbows.

Good Luck!

Jay

PS Davis is fishing well too

Thanks for the info,, I am also looking at Little Bear RV Park as It might be nicer for my wife, but I've heard the fishing sucks by the park.

Sardine Lake Campground is not lakeside.....about 1/2 mile from the lake. The loop around the campground is a little "tighter" to navigate than Salmon Creek. And the camps are a little closer together. Both are nice.

Bring yer swimmin' suit. Nice place to go for a dip at Sand Pond, just below Sardine Lake.

Looked and looked and looked for you to share the hot fishing reports. But you were no-where to be found. Hopefully you figured out Packer had a hot bite on Damsel nymphs for nice little 9-12 inch brookies. Fun time!
