Hit North Twin Lake today, just adjacent to Wickiup Reservoir. Beautiful day....somewhat crisp this morning at 17 degrees on the back deck, but warmed up to a fine 54 degrees late this afternoon. Got my License this morning at Hammertime Hardware, made a stop at the Hook Fly shop for some wisdom, a pep talk and some flies, and headed out West of Sunriver. Good thing one doesn't need to be on the water at the crack of dawn at this time of year, as I parked the car at 1:00 and had the tube ready to go and launched at 1:30. Was fishing a new Fishcat 4 float tube, and really liked it. Got almost 50 yards from the boat launch when the first 8 incher of many hit the dropper copper john trailed below an Olive Wooly Bugger. North Twin is a good sized lake of approximately 3/4 mile across. I spent the next four hours slowly working the perimeter and caught quite a number of fish to about 11". I was the only fly fisher on the lake, although there were a few Powerbait guys. It is a put and take lake, so I'm OK with that. Although all the fish I caught looked native, and holdovers from a long cold winter and in excellent shape. Had a Bald Eagle working over the lake for awhile, and then he was replaced by 3 Osprey. Mt. Batchelor had a very strong coating of snow. Over 500 inches fell this season and the Cascades Lakes Highway is still a ways from opening. Most of the lakes in that region won't open till clater May. A very nice start to the 2009 season.
Tomorrow, Duncan, and the Cowboy Tree.
