CSPA Advisory - Letter writing instructions for AB 17 Years ago
CSPA Action Alert 3-18-09

Legislation to Eradicate Striped Bass Fisheries Introduced! We need your letters and support!
AB 1253 (Fuller) Would abort the management of the public’s striped bass fishery, open it to unlimited harvest, and send it to oblivion.

Apparently not satisfied that the litigation filed last year by agricultural interests will succeed, Assembly Woman Jean Fuller (R-Bakersfield) has introduced legislation to eradicate the fishery. She’s the front person for certain Corporate agricultural growers and irrigation districts in the Central Valley that believe it is fine to destroy a legendary public fishery to enhance their economic interests. They justify this based upon the contention that striped bass predation of ESA listed species impacts their ability to receive water from the Delta.

Yes, the make up of the committee is really loaded against us. We will need to scramble hard to kill this in committee. In this particular instance the letters are REALLY important.

Paul, the odds are excellent. Our newsletters reach 1,200 people, I've posted on six different BB's. Many club conservation chairs bring these items to their club meetings to pass out. In addition, I'll be attending the Blanton Spring clinic on Saturday and passing out printed instructions to about a hundred folks.

Dan Bacher will pick it up and run it on his network as well.

However, no one should "let the other guy do it." Every letter counts.

We encourage people to sign up for our weekly email newsletters for just this purpose. The newsletter is free and the service is managed by the subscriber. He or she can enroll or unenroll at any time. We only send out emergency notices when we have to and average about five mailings a month. We are prohibited to sell, trade or barter the e-mail list or we will lose the service.

People that want to keep informed can sign up on our front page, http://www.calsport.org
