Now I'm confused ; I originally wanted to learn how to cast, now you guys are gonna get me started on tying? Soon you will be selling me a bridge...

I would really like to learn to cast first, then tie; custom flies can be purchased, but I can't purchase a good cast. Though I could just go to an asian market, buy the fish and be done with it; NOT

Thanks guys....

G,

LOTS of folks fly fish and never learn to tie. I agree with your assessment, learn to cast, then learn about bugs and terminal tackle - start with dry flies, otherwise, you might just as well fish with a spinning rod. [Oh, I bobicate, but if it weren't for dry flies, I doubt that I would fly fish]

Soon enough you will get bitten by the bug to tie, and then you will eventually catch a fish on a fly that you have tied, hopefully a dry. The day that happens you are doomed to a life of happy frustration.

Find your local Fly Fishing Club - can't be said too often - they will help you get better.

After expenses for root beer, you would probably have made a small profit of $3.12. I guess that is modest.

Yep, then after you've tied up a few thousand flies you get into building yourself a rod (or 2 or 3). There's no better ego booster than catching a fish on a fly you tied with a rod you built.
