Don't give up on this board! 17 Years, 4 Months ago

I agree that the NCFFB has a lot in common with our economy, but I'm optimistic.
I try to do my part to contribute when I've been fishing, without giving too much info relating to anadromous fish.
I'm not a moderator and I don't make decisions for the NCFFB, but I have shared my mind with others who do. I'm REALLY hoping that we move forward in a positive direction.
Bill Kiene's board is a great source, but it's not a community. Lowest common denominators are edited out so there's a lack of, ummmm, colorful personalities.
I'm unaffected by the jerks, but I've heard way too many folks who have left the board say they've done so due to all the negativity here. There's nothing to be done about it, as things now stand. It's permitted.
Maybe parents could let their children read those posts to learn how NOT to behave.

Slo,
I have to agree with some of the others here. AZB did not create the crowded conditions on the Trinity. The Trinity itself is the cause of its own success. Last year a 60,000 fish + run and many, many guide boats on the river to a point where certain afternoons I had a dozen boats pass me in the last hour. Reports of 20 and 30 fish days on telephone calls between friends that get shared with friends, that get shared with other friends via email. I was dismayed this year when I stopped by the Douglas City store to get coffee and a sandwich and in the course of swapping small talk about steelhead fishing, the owner, unsolicted, directed me to my favorite run that I can almost always get without company. Guess what. Two weeks ago I was able to fish it once in three days, and had to wait out a guide boat for an hour to do it. The other two days featured walk in folks fishing the run. The Trinity run this year is dramatically below the past couple of years and will result in fewer people fishing the river. This year the river has returned to where it was several years ago in terms of catch rates. A fish or two in a day, or none is the river I remember 4-5 years ago when the crowds were less. A few more $500/day guide trips with no hooks ups will result in fewer fisherman.
With the internet, there are no longer any secrets. There are a bunch of boards out there and fly clubs and everyone IS talking to everyone about what's happening up to the minute via email.
What I appreciate about AZB's reports is they are entertaining, and enthusiatstic, maybe too much for some but so be it. He is posting a fishing report without giving too much information about specifics. A FISHING REPORT! What a novel concept. Let's get a few more of them posted!

Phil,
While staying away from the issues around AZB, on which I have an opinion that are not germane to this discussion, your comments on the Trinity River ring true. Last year the Trinity was a Disneyland fishey, there were many fish and they were cooperative. I had my best day ever steelhead fishing last year and will probably never repeat that day. I have always considered steelhead fishing to be tough and was excited to hook one fish. Last year on the Trinity that mystic seemed to sort of evaporated and multiple fish days came to be expected. This year reality has returned and it is back to steelhead fishing as it was, tough fishing. I will comtinue to fish the Trinity because I want to catch a sea run brown but my expectations are certainly lower this year.

In the first paragraph you're saying that Kienes board isn't a community because the "colorful personalities" are edited out. Then, in the second paragraph you're complaining that they aren't edited out here. You should think about what you're going to say, and then just STFU.

Nice response. I'm sure you make your parents proud.
It's impolite, nasty responses like yours that have caused alot of nice folks to abandon the NCFFB.
Notice there's a PM function. I'll still get your message, and you won't subject the decent folks on this site to your foul thoughts.
PM me if you want to continue this without damaging the board.
