Silver Fork and Caples Lake Alert!!! 17 Years, 9 Months ago
For those of you, like me, who like to fish the Silver Fork, be advised:

The Sacbee reported that Caples Lake is being drawn down in preparation for work on the slide gates at the outlet. The Irrigation District advised that flows will be higher-than usual, and are expected to remain very high through mid-September. Caples Lake will be emptied over the next two months.

For more info, the El Dorado Irrigation District's website is:

www.eid.org

This is going to change a few fishing plans.

Cheers,
El Rey

Is higher water a bad thing for this time of the year? Or will it be un-fishable?

Regards,

Joe

I don't know, Joe. The only time I've been there during high flows was at spring run-off, and that was just too muddy to fish. I probably wouldn't be wading in some of my favorite spots. But this time of year there are lots of nice alternatives in the high country.

Caples Lake, however, could be a disaster. Think of all those monster browns flopping around on the muddy lakebed. Sad. They'll have to restock it just like Davis Lake.

Cheers,
El Rey
