1st Annual Oyster Mini-bash :pic: 17 Years, 8 Months ago
What a blast! Chick had a terrific idea and did a great job organizing this bash, and we all had a great time (even if there were no steelhead to be had). As always, it was a lot of fun to hang out with folks. I always learn something at a bash. At this bash, I learned how yummy coffee ice cream and Jamesons is

My pictures are all from the day, since I was having too much fun that evening to take any pictures. I took a lot of pictures along the Garcia, so I hope all those on dial up forgive me!

Greg and Snicker with the Point Arena Lighthouse in the background:

There weren't many people fishing at the river, so Snicker got to do some swimming (there weren't any steelhead to scare most of the day ):

SST working for surf perch:

Flaming orange comet over the ocean:

GM capturing a moment:

AZ Bruce, GM, and SST:

SST and GM found a great piece of wood. Hmmm, I wonder to what use they will put it?

Some fishing was done, even if no catching was done:

Wolfgang was having a great time throwing rocks into the ocean while his dad Rich looks on (that kid has an arm!):

There are a few more pictures on my flickr webpage from this bash:

I had a wonderful time this weekend! Thanks to all the mini-bashers for making it so much fun!

Dawn, thanks. Those are great pictures. And thanks for playing hostess, till I slid in to home with the chili and the bivalves.

Every time I get together with someone from this board, I remember how wonderful the people from NCFFB are. When there's 10 or so of'em, it's like 100 fold wow.

If it's ok with y'all, I don't mind setting up the 2nd Annual SSO Mini-Bash, next mid-winter. Feesh or no feesh...it was just what the doctor ordered, for beating some mid-winter blues.

Great pics Dawn. Even with slow dial up they were well worth viewing. (By the end of the week we should actually have high speed wireless out here in Thompson Valley! Can't wait!) How is the research going?

...nice pics - that camera is working pretty well for you. That shot of Kelly looks like he's going to get the hurt put on him from that wave.

Research is coming along... 17 Years, 8 Months ago
Hey Michael!

I am busy the next couple of weeks in the lab identifying the parasites I have found so far. I have also been working on the rough draft of my thesis. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel! Woohoo!

How's retirement? Any thoughts on how Lake Davis will fish this spring?

Thanks! I was experimenting with the zoom in that shot with SST. I read something about standing far away and using the zoom to make the background seem more dominating (I am sure there is some fancy camera term for it, but I can't remember what it is). It was a gorgeous day for photographing, even if it sucked for steelhead. The company couldn't be beat!

We had a GREAT time! 17 Years, 8 Months ago
Dawn & GM, thanks for sharing your photos.
Chick, thanks for the brillant idea as we were in dire need of a weekend away. I enjoyed seeing some old friends and making some new ones. (Except Arizonia Bruce as I thought this was just for California residents?) I only wish that more success fishing.

The food was good.
The wine was great.
The company was excellent. (Except for the jerk who shall go un-named)
The Kabin set-up was awesome.

Wolfie had a great time exploring the ocean and the woods giving us a good idea of how soon we can return to our old outdoor activities.

...need to do another coastal mini-bash again at some point.

Here's a shot of you and Wolfie at the beach...enough wood on that beach to build a house!

Retirement is awesome. And work is highly over rated. Having said that....after six months of full retirement I can now only claim partial retirement. I went to work for Feather Publishing (they do six local newspapers up in this part of the woods). At first it was just one day a week processing photographs for publishing. Lots of fun. But a couple weeks ago the publisher asked me to take on the internet stuff and try to develop that side of the business. That will take me to about twenty hours a week which is really pushing it for me. Its not so bad this time of year, but I worry that it may cramp my style come spring. Hopefully I can hang in there for a year or two.

And I am a happy camper today. I actually have high speed wireless here as of this morning. I have been living on 24k for the past six years. (Lousy phone lines out here.) Now I am cruising at close to 100M. SWEET!

Glad to hear your thesis is comming along. Hang in there. That is where I lost it. I finished all of the course work, but only got as far as a draft thesis before I decided on a career in the wildland fire business. It was a good career choice, but I should have finished the masters degree.

Welcome to the world of high speed - you will never want to go back to dialup again!...sounds like a smokin' connection you have now.
