Lost a Good Friend This Weekend 17 Years, 8 Months ago
|
|
Been a tough weekend. My wife lost her dad this weekend. He was 82 and lived a long full life. But nonetheless, it is still tough to see the end of an era.
He served in WW II in the Merchant Marines and Army, entering the military at 16....yeah, he lied about his age. He survived the war and returned home to marry my Mother-in-law. He raised two wonderful daughters, one of which has become my wife of 28 years. He served 30 years as a home delivery milkman, and was the last home delivery milkman n the bay area. While he didn't fly fish, he was an avid golfer and I spent more than a few days chasing that little white ball around a big lawn with him. Its been tough on my wife, as this was the last of her family.
Going to miss him.

Sorry to hear that Phil. I lost my Dad, 93 yrs old, this past December - it's a tough time and I admit I still get a bit teary eyed from time to time. I think it helps to keep in mind his good memories will live on through both you and your wife. My condolences to the both of you.
My thoughts are with you.

Sonny, the black lab, ran ahead to make sure there were no gophers or jackrabbits in the way. If you don't give a dog a specific job, he'll improvise one for himself and it will invariably be fun. There's a lesson there.

You haven't lost him Phil. You just won't see him for a good while. In the meantime you have the memories and happiness of him in your heart. Condolences and love from Patty and me.
