Casino On Big Lagoon?? 17 Years, 9 Months ago
|

Here is a link to a local article concerning the Big Lagoon Rancheria's plan for a casino on the shores of Big Lagoon. This is looking more and more like it might actually happen since they lost their bid for a compact in Barstow.

There's already a casino in Trinidad and another in Blue Lake. For an area with what, 50,000 residents tops, how many @#$@%^* casinos do they need? Don't you guys do anything else up there besides gamble?????

Yes -- they drink, smoke pot, and poach the rivers. Not Jeff L., though. He brought some Carolina courtesy with him!
(There are a lot of good folks up the coast. A lot of... how should one put this... interesting characters as well.)

Oh yeah...my comment was partially in jest as I have family in McKinleyville and Arcata, and Jeff knows that.
But the thought of a big, hideous casino sitting by Big Lagoon with huge parking lots packed with cars hardly seems like progress.

We lived up there for a few years... not so long ago, actually. I actually fished the Mad and the Lagoons with Jeff a few times. The Steelhead and the redwoods are really the only part we miss (other than a few select friends.)

Bill you forgot the new one in Fortuna, and they have been trying to put a portable one back on the banks of the Klamath for some time. All 55 memebers of the tribe at Big Lagoon want their gaming facility as well, and if they decide to build on the shores of Big Lagoon there is really nothing the State of California can do excepot huff and puff because the land is already in reserve. The project only has to conform to Federal standards, which takes away CEQA and the authority of the Califonria Coastal Commission. It has a lot of folks fuming up this way.

I wonder what Andrew Jackson would do if he were still alive?
Hope things are going well Jeff - might be up your way in the next month or so...I'll let you know.

The only reason they keep building Casinos is because we are too stupid to NOT SHOW UP. If no customers came in, they would go out of business. I am looking for a bunch of fools that will give me $1, in exchange I will give them .57 cents and the opportunity to MAYBE win a Jackpot that is no more than 55% of MY PROFIT. It's the greatest scam in the world, and totally legal. Our greedy Governor and legislators are happy to TAKE millions in campaign contributions from the tribes to promote their scam. Luckily, we get the chance on the NEXT ballot to tell the tribes and the state where to jam their new casinos.
