"Sideways" is a great movie!
As to Merlot, there was an article on that beverage in the wine section of a monthly magazine I get.
They mentioned "Sideways" and slammed Merlot like there was no tomorrow. It was really humorous. Then they actually recommended 3 in different price ranges that bucked the trend of that, how can I say this tactfully...nun's piss (a term we usually reserve for weak, girlie beers).
Here's the only one I've tried, after losing the article: Chateau Ste. Michelle, 2003
It ain't Pinot Noir and it ain't Zinfandel but it's absolutely drinkable. Chase it down with anything by Bartles & James.
