Alpers Ranch 18 Years, 1 Month ago

Just read on another bulletin board that the Alpers Ranch has been sold----to the same folks that bought/own the Arcularius Ranch.
Anyone have any info on this???
Curious to know how/if this will affect the production of all the Alpers trout that are planted in all the lakes. Or, if this means his pond is gone also.
SLO, are you out there?? You would know.
Thanks

Hi Betty -
SLO called me yesterday with this news after I too had seen it on another board. Then today I got a letter from Tim and Pam Alpers that they were indeed selling the ranch and that the new owners did not intend to continue the cabin rentals. The note indicates Tim will continue to raise trout at another site so at least their famous trout will still be part of trips to the East side. The note did not mention the pond but I would assume that will also be closed. These changes are effective beginning in Jan.
Very sad to see the loss of the ranch. SLO and I had been going since 95 and we were newbies compared to some of the folks we meet while there. Was a very special place!!!

Yes, the whole thing is very sad. To see public areas falling into private hands and being closed off is a real bummer. I mean, the guy already owned the Arcularius. How much more did he need??? I know how special the place was to you, Darti, and to SLO.
I knew Tim had some involvement with the new hatchery at Conway, but I didn't know what form it was to take. Looks like that hatchery will be cranking out a good share of the fish (both browns and Alpers) that are planted in the eastern sierra.
Thanks for all the good info
Betty
