On Friday I saw a lot of vehicles parked in areas below Douglas City as well as below Weaverville...too many at Lime Point and Pidgeon Point for mee to fish.
I was a guest in a boat that drifted the upper river (Blacktail to Indian Creek)on Saturday, only one other boat seen (ahead of ours) and passed about 12 bank/wading fishermen (1/2 bait/lure and 1/2 flyfishers) within sight of which we did not fish. Small nymphs (#12 & #14) worked in almost every hole/run we fished and we never had a boat in sight (up or down stream) when we were fishing, and we had 8 fish to the boat...I was low rod, going 2 for 6 and my host went 6 for 10). All the fish in the the boat were hatchery fish in the 22" to 30" range.
Water was low (about 250-300 CFS) and clear...we saw a few pods of steelhead moving upstream that were not acting like they wanted to feed...like Mark says, lots of moss in the upper section, makes dead drifting tough.
