Shasta County Sheriff Tom Bosenko is considering shutting down the upper half of the LSac from Convention to Bonny.

You should voice your opinion if you have one.

The Sheriff's Statement..." 17 Years, 6 Months ago
"weigh the economic factors against public safety risks"

I wonder how much value he will place on a person life??

If it's as dangerious as they say, then they should close it.
23 ft wide seems a bit tight for a drift boat, but doable for an experienced guide.

Now, if Road Dog invites you to go with him...

make sure your life vest is on

“The city messed up in terms of the recreation value of the river,” he said. “They didn’t take that into consideration when they started this project.”

One could wonder whether they took the Salmon spawn into consideration either. Interesting timing given the number of redds in the river at this time of year...

Thanks for info, seems worth a call, especially since the Cypress Bridge rebuilding project is expected to continue until late 2010. (And how many construction projects finish ahead of schedule?)

I think the Redding tourism officer is lowballing it when he estimates that $1 million a year goes to Redding's economy from fishing the river...I feel as though I spend half that amount every time I visit the Fly Shop!

The biggest problem here is that the city planners decided that the bridge pilings should be set in at an angle that matches the shoreline and not the current flow. This pushes the boats into the pilings via water pressure. That added to a 30 foot window does nothing to help the situation. The city planner should be fired.

Poor planning aside- I am for this closure. As stupid as the whole thing is, it's not worth risking a human life. I also commend the sheriffs office for taking the public opinion into consideration before making this decision. I am sure at the end of the day it is a "CYA" move, but still commendable.
