Fly Line Question 17 Years, 5 Months ago
|
|
Its that time of year. Time to be browsing seed catalogs and fly fishing catalogs. I need to replace a fly line. A 5 wt floater that I fish on a Sage rod. I have always been a fan of Cortland 444. Never bought anything else. But I am wondering about Cabelas Prestige Plus. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I think that ever since Cortland created the lazer line they have gone down hill and have not yet recovered. The 333 peach and 444sl are good lines. My SA lines seem to last much longer. I had issues with a RIO selective trout line being soft and damaged by the leader cuts. Its a great casting line and I think they resolved the issues they had in the past. Lines are getting way to expensive with the new shark skin running $100 a pop. Choose wisely.

The best floating line I've ever used is Wulff's Triangle Taper...particularly if you don't use a super fast action rod. I'm sure their sinking and salt Triangle Tapers are good too, I've just not used them. It's running about 55-60 bucks a pop. If you do check it out, make sure you get the newer J3 version...it's a nice improvement on an allready dynamite product.

Cortland...any line except... 17 Years, 5 Months ago

...the 555 Clear floating line...the WF5F I picked up remains in coils like a bashful Slinky, is too stiff to mend for reduction of drag, and has a great future being cut into 8" sections for use holding my tomato plants onto the tomato stakes...the Sage green colored 555 that replaced it is outstanding and I'm starting to replace a lot of the floating trout lines with the Rio Selective Trout taper lines.
