After reading Loretta's post, I'm thinking a Personal Floating Device might be a good addition to my fly gear repertoire. (Although with my day pack, vest and camera around my waist, I wonder where the hell I'll be able to wear it.)

Are there any models out there that aren't too bulky, and who manufactures them?

I assumed you were wearing an inflatible. But, hey Loretta, you're here to tell the tale and that's all that really matters.

My question is, how can one wear an inflatible WITH a vest. If you wear it under the vest, when inflated won't the vest strangle you?

If you wear it on top of the vest, how do you get into your pockets?

this is the vest i wear now http://www...pfid=2157&deptid=956 . I cant carry a lot in it but all you need is a box of flies a spool of tippet and a sink tip wallet to fish for steelhead.

HOWEVER, I find your list of "needs" a bit lacking.

Remember, I'm a walking fly shop when I'm on the water. I carry at least 4 fly boxes and I NEED them all...at least, that's what I think.

Maybe it'll work if I stuff more into my day pack. Could you wear a pack with that vest?

I don't wear an inflatable. I wear the Cabela's comfort mesh vest PFD . I use a waist pack to carry my gear in, including 4 fly boxes. Plus I wear G3's so i have pocket there. Also the comfort mesh PDF has two pockets.

I am a minimalist. Besides brian has a fifty pound vest. So if i dont have it, I poach it from him.

With everything I carry, including a waterproof camera case containing extra lenses around my waist, I think an inflatible might be better for me.

If I ever get a different camera system, your vest might work.
