Left over Tigers and the Stink Eye on the Lower Big T. 17 Years, 10 Months ago

I had to go into Reno yesterday to pick up some materials for my latest remodel and got a chance to fish at Mayberry Park, at the Patagonia Outlet.

The fishing was so so, I got a couple of left over tiger trout (Brown x Brookie) planters drifting and swinging a birds nest. After an about 45 minutes the storm moved in and the rain and stronger winds blew me off the river.

Now I've fished this stretch a couple of times this is the second time I have gotten the "Stink Eye" from a Patagonia employee. The first one was from a not so pretty woman, I'm being way to kind, who cruised by me 3 times in her Prius as I got ready to fish. Last night was a dreadlock bedecked guy who frowned as he came around the side of my truck and saw my fly rod. I didn't see any PETA stickers on their cars. Non the less I got a distinctly bad vibe from these folks. No I'm assuming that they must have been employees because the outlet was closed and they came out of the building prior to going to their cars.

Don't they know that they are selling outdoor gear? I was infact wearing a Patagonia fleece last night.

It did leave a bad taste in my mouth for the companies gear and I don't know if I'll shop their agian.

Oh well.

If they were Patagonia employees, they'd better get to know their big boss and get with the program. Yvon is a big angler, big contributor to fish-oriented non-profits, and they sell high end fly fishing gear (you know all this I'm sure).

Andrew, I know that Yvon Chanard (sp?) is a big fly fisher and world class climber and outdoors person. That's what has me baffled by the 2 encounters. This could be expected if you were fishing outside Barnes and Noble But not Patagonia. Oh well it guess it takes all kinds to make up the world. Dick White Tahoma CA

Wow, you should try stopping by the Patagonia outlet in Dillon, MT sometime. I am guessing you would have a whole different experience from there in Reno. So what exactly does the Stink Eye look like? Did they say anything to you? Maybe they were the employee of the month and you were parking in there spot?
