Dustin
question
do you have a detail map of the new pardee dam ,,,,
i asumme its gonna include the canyon below pardee into part of comanchee .
and will wipe out middle bar and electra .
the buckhorn res. map on the pdf file of a new res ,is this the new pardee ?
problem is there are no identifiable land marks .
either way we are gonna loose what 7 miles of river ?
Any map of the new res plans with landmarks?
thanks

Steve,
Here is the information I received from Katherine Evatt, the President of the Foothill Conservancy:
Hi, Dustin: I saw all the referrals from the NCFF Board to our website and just logged on -- saw the question re the reservoir locations, etc.
Here's what we know:
The Pardee expansion would involve building a new dam downstream from the current dam. So yes, there would be river lost btwn Pardee and Camanche. Unknown how much.
The expansion would flood the entire Middle Bar reach. Probably wouldn't go up into the Electra Run, but EBMUD staff say it could raise the levels high enough that CalTrans would required building a new Hwy 49 bridge.
The Bear River raise would either be lower or upper Bear. Not sure of extent offhand (and Pete, our expert on the matter, is already in Oakland for the mtg or I'd ask him).
The Bear raise is complicated by PG&E's current proposal to develop a pump-storage project between Salt Springs and either Bear or a new reservoir on Cole Creek. More on that later -- it's a new permit application to FERC that would cycle water up and down through a tunnel, with a powerhouse in the tunnel itself.

Thanks Dustin
i guess im opposeed to this for selfish reasons ,
there is only a short streach below pardee before it becomes an arm of comanchee,
so consider this will all be gone, this is a hard to reach areas and few ever fish it ,,, but its a special place i keep in my back pocket.
loosing below 49 and middle is another little gem lost ,another special place .
the $#@#$ yackers also will be %$#$% up because this is part of thier electra run and the take out point for them
what was that pdf map of a proposed Buckhorn res ? there was no geographic ref on it so ,im lost ,,,we both know where buckhorn is and that dosent fit any of the proposals .
i would like to see a rendering of the new pardee ,and how electra would flow into it ,,,it could turn electra into a dead water arm of pardee .
they must have drawings if they are pursing this.
Blaaaaaa
thanks

EBMUD took the E. Bay (Buckhorn) reservoir out of the plan today. They kept in Pardee and Bear expansions, but linked them to the conjunctive use project with San Joaquin County, a very long shot. They expect discussions on those projects to continue for at least the next four years.
The various options will be discussed in the project EIR.
Saddens me to see you slam kayakers, Steve (I'm neither an angler nor a paddler -- am on the river side of the Row v Wade debate). Groups like the California Hydropower Reform Coalition (www.calhrc.org) include boaters, anglers, fish groups and enviros -- we all need to work together. It takes our combined efforts to deal with 19th century dam thinking.

sorry
Kathline ,i didnt mean to come across as slamming kayakers ,it was just my poor wording that made it seem that way ,please forgive my foul language .
the kayakers have done much work for the Moke ,and i believe their efforts were responsible for the building of the middle bar take out .
also allowing river access to a section once closed by EBMUD.
Id hate to lose Middle bar and possible electra .
So how do you think will the new dam effect the flows on the electra section of the moke ?
Ive just got this feeling it will turn it into slower water ,like below middle bar . AKA Clinton bridge
Good to see you here
Thanks

Hi, Steve: No worries. I just know there are sometimes conflicts between anglers and kayakers -- and I believe we all need to focus on common river goals. If the rivers are dammed, there will be no stream fishing or whitewater kayaking.
Opening Middle Bar took a lot of work by a variety of people. Foothill Conservancy was already working with the state Attorney General's Office when a group of kayakers coincidentally decided to run the Middle Bar reach. It was an amazing coincidence -- they ran the reach and were busted exactly one day after the State Lands Commission decided to support the access effort, so Deputy AG Lisa Trankley was able to help clarify matters for the local DAs. Then we kept working with Lisa, the BLM, and EBMUD to get everything set and the takeout built.
I'm not really qualified to say anything about flows. But I'll ask people who do know.
Game's not over yet by a long shot, as far as raising Pardee goes. But people who care about the Mokelumne, like you, need to stay informed and speak up. If you live in Amador and Calaveras, be sure to let your county supervisor and water agency rep know how you feel.
