Marty,
I think we incorporated or adapted the bulk of the information from the Federation's instructional guide, then personalized it with photos of actual fishing situations. We even threw in some quicktime video for casting instruction as well. Gene Kaczmarek kept their attention during the fly tying portion. The flies tied by the scouts could catch fish. Sometimes folks close to Gene seem to overlook his teaching skills. Have to admit it, if Gene can't get you to tie flies, no one will. At minimum, he will keep/command your attention. Gene still refuses to use a whip finishing tool, so someone else had to show them.

We had the vises from the Federation in time for the fly tying portion as well. And under the safety issues of hook removal, it was a good thing to do that after lunch. I can only imagine what would have been done with the demo hot dogs, if the boys were hungry.
