One more time: what a blast!
People started showing up at the site Thursday evening and the fish started to feel the pain since then! The key were large stimulators in orange and then smaller size #16 caddis later in the day.
Heck! We even had a decent day of fishing for smallies on Saturday! But the bottom line was: rising fish and dry flies. And that’s it for the fishing.
The bash: as usual the company was great, the food was decent, the only part I didn’t feel comfortable was when a known old time poster from Oroville, insisted that we eat his Kielbasa, but at the end we complied and, mixed it with Sangerdave little curly shrimp, made more sense and it turned out everybody liked it. It is, after all, the 21st century.
The drinking was average but steady and that helped me understand many new things, and that is the main reason why we love the sport of fly fishing: you always learn something new! For example, did you know that if you take a quarter of a Viagra pill, your face gets really red and your eyes feels like they’re popping out?!?! I also heard somebody broke his arm ‘cause nobody showed up…. Who would have thunk it?!?!
Saturday night a policeman showed up… and that got SloFly all excited. He started looking for the indian, the construction worker, the cowboy and the biker in buttless chaps, he thought we threw a Village People surprise party for him. But no, he was just looking for some kind of car, so we thought to help and passed him a perfect description of Willie’s car.
DougP (it was obviously his fault), didn’t say much, but you could see it in his eyes that he was masterminding something that will eventually hurt us or make us all better persons! Too bad he doesn’t know Quigley, so he’s pretty much useless to any organization. And I discovered, to my surprise, that Pappy got his looks BEFORE the airplane crash!
We missed Steve, which, I understand, is on a two inch job (one in, one out) in Florida… hopefully he got to hook up with Goofy.
Anyway, thanks for the great time and don’t forget to sign up for the rod bash! As usual the builders/instructors will be Pappy, SloFly, DougP and UC.
Can’t wait to do it all over again next year!
