In 1966, my first fly caught striper was in from the Delta/Mendota Canal...not real technical...7wt fiberglass rod, a full sinking line, a white bucktail streamer (before deceivers and clousers), and a lot of LDRs due to inability to understand the requirement to close distance on the fish by running downstream at a speed equal to or greater than the flow (not really current) WHILE reeling in...landing a fish is tough because of the distance between the surface of the water and the top of the concrete and I never wanted to fall in...shake the fish off/break the fish off at the wall.

Been back a few times since with a rod better suited for fighting the elements as well as the fish, heads and newer flies.

You know, it's not really fly fishing if you're doing it in a cement river!

...no more fishing near the Post Office in Castle...it's a cement ditch.
