Iceman---The person in the fly shop who "...made it clear I shouldn't worry if fishing catch & release ANYWHERE on the Truckee..." provided you extremely poor advice. Again, you were lucky that the local warden hadn't been responding to the recent Cal-Tips...specifically...to that section along highway 89. I'm thinking, if you haven't, better to talk to the shop owner about the troublesome advice one of his staff given you.
Geez... following the logic that as long a one fishes "C & R" it is OK regardless of closed seasons, he/she may be informing shop clients that its OK to fish on ANY river...ANYTIME!?!...if one practices catch & release. Bottomline is carry a reg book in your vehicle for ready reference.
