I just finished an article in the May 2008 edition of "Fly Fisherman" magazine on a new way to calculate fish weight. The Phd dude who wrote it uses:
Length X Girth X Girth divided by 690 instead of the traditional
L X G X G divided by 800.
He backs up this new calculator with weights taken on an IGFA calibrated scale. The good news is that if this is true all of our fish have just gotten a bit heavier.

Now, lets put this to good use.
Our very own, "Fishhawk" called me this evening to share the news that he landed a bright, 41" length, 23" girthed steelhead in Oregon today.
At 41 X 23 X 23 divided by 800, that absolute hawg weighed 27.11 pounds. Son of a bitch!!
But at 41 X 23 X 23 divided by 690, that puppy grew to 31.43 pounds. Double dog son of a bitch!!!
Either way, Shawn is to be congratulated. I think he was indicator fishing
