vested interest in your "maybe" purchase of something? If he was just an employee, he wasn't benefiting from your looking around. It is just a job. He probably had better things to do than keep the lights on. He gave you the opportunity to shop, if you had something specific in mind. That was pretty nice of him. You have your catalogs to keep you mildly occupied. There wasn't anything in there that you really needed or wanted anyway. Besides, you discounted your rant with the fact that you never checked to see what their hours were prior to your arrival.
I enjoyed your rant and it appears that you put some time and thought to your complaint. I only intended these comments as the devil's advocate. There is nothing new out there, especially at that particular shop. They'll be plenty of stuff to browse at Pleasanton Fly Fishing Show the end of the month. You could have hit the Orvis shop in San Jose, California Fly Shop in San Carlos which closes at 4 PM or Leland in SF as well as another Orvis store close by.
