Last week I was feeling kind of down because I wasn't taking my customary second trip to the Trinity for autumn steelheading. Yeah, fishing sucks a bit this year, but it was the economy more than anything else that had me acting conservatively. This downturn could be a bad one.
In my misery, I turned on the TV and watched Steinbecks, "The Grapes of Wrath" with a very young Henry Fonda. Somehow, this classic about a family in the Great Depression had eluded me in the past.
With scenes of children starving, folks dying without medical attention and lousy jobs at an absolute premium WITHOUT government programs to help the unemployed, I was a bit humbled and reminded of my many blessings.
So what if I miss a few fishing trips?!
May you all have food, shelter and good family around you this Thanksgiving Holiday.
