Lots of out-of-town guides and boats showing up with the 'famous' salmon egg drop starting to happen. (not that the river doesn't fish great at other times of the year)
Expect crowds until the 2nd week of November when attentions will be focused other places. (personally, I'll be staying home (the LS) all winter, not joining the crowds on the other river) My top 5 largest trout ever landed in California have come from the LS in late November and December. October is not the only time to fish the river !!
Strong wind is the story today and tomorrow. Constant wind in the upper teens today and tomorrow, with gusts near 40+ mph predicted for Fri.
It's pretty much the same story as far as flies go.....eggs/PT's/Princes/Stones/Micro-Mays.
There has been a tiny bit of dry fly activity, but only if you're in the right place at sun-up or sun-down. Mid-day dry fly action is very hard to find right now.
We're in a time of change (high water to low water.....hot days to cool days.... no salmon to having salmon.....sunny days to cloudy/rainy days) What worked last month, might not work this month or next month. Fish are moving to different water types. It can get challenging at times.
Evenings have been better fishing lately.... that, or it takes all day to figure 'em out !!
Be safe if you are floating, as the bridge constructions are hazardous.
