Fished the Little Truckee from noon til 5:00. There was no surface action at all, so I tried terrestrials--hoppers, beetles, ants. The ants were the ticket.
Landed 2 beautifully colored rainbows, both in the 15" to 17" range, 1 LDR, and several misses/refusals. All in my favorite stretch of the meadow section.
About 4:00 I started seeing some baetis flying around, about #20, but there was no surface feeding. And yes, I probably should have stayed later.
One ff'er was just leaving when I arrived--he reported no action at all. Then I saw nobody else on the stream all afternoon. Pleasant solitude. (Hope my wife doesn't read this. She hates it when I'm all alone on the river--we senior citizens have to be very careful.)
Anyhow, great day. Catching should improve as we enter autumn.
Cheers,
El Rey
