East Side Report - the truth 18 Years, 1 Month ago
Since SLO has bashed my truck and told other falsehoods re our recent trip - here is the truth.

Hit the eastside on Monday the 7th with the infamous Dick Rivers. Met up with SLo and Oak at the XXXXXX ranch. I think they were confused as to number of folks showing up as they unloaded 200 beers for a four day trip. Fishing great swinging a nymph, tugging a seal bugger along the undercut banks or dropping it into the deep holes.

I have been telling (lying?) to my neighbor for years about the big fish we catch at Crowley in the float tubes so he decides to hit the eastside and have me show him the ropes. So we hit Leighton Springs on Thurs and, of course, Crowley is completely dead. Evey the guides aren't catching fish. No bumps for a morning on the water. Not sure he will talk to me again.

After 4 days of mind altering fishing with SLO (see beer count above) we moved to the June Lake loop. It is here that my F250 is possessed by a demon. Can someone explain to me why when a starter goes bad the tack starts flipping from 0 to max rpm and back over and over and the CD player starts ejecting CD's onto the seat? Ford does have a better idea.

With Crowley out of the picture, we hit Gull Lake on the loop with zero fish as the are at a depth where a sub will be needed to reach them. Since we had to check on truck the next day we decided to fish Lower Twin in Mammoth. Some fish caught but lake very shallow and, of course, I only had a sinking line with me.

Next day we hiked into Kerman Lake which is on highway 108. Lake once known for it's nice cutthroats but has not fished well for several years. Rumor had it that it was improving so we gave it a try. Fished so-so. Friend and son each got one of the cutts (18+) but other than that just a couple tugs.

Word was that fish were holding across from marina on Bridgeport Res. Since it to far to paddle we decided to rent a boat. Well four men and four float tubes in a small rental is a sight to behold. We did get across (barely) and there were plenty of fish around - problem was moss in water so thick any fly pulled behind the tube for 50 feet got a big green beard. Couple fish were caught - they must have been seeing back half of my hares ear but not fun fishing as you cleaned flys every couple minutes.

With Crowley and Bridgeport a bust - hit the Virgina Lakes on last evening just to see if fish do bite. 75 degrees and calm in parking lot when putting waders on - not on water 15 minutes when ugly front goes over and temp drops 25 degrees with 25 mph wind. At least fish were caught but sure was cold in the old tee shirt.

Hopefully both Crowley and Bridgeport will improve before the next trip in Sept.
