Eagle Lake Report 18 Years, 2 Months ago
It was another successful year. Not so much in the amount of fish caught but in the fact that I hooked my son on fishing. It was a memorable trip for the both of us. He caught his first fish and I was there to be a part of it. He was so excited. We went several other times during the course of the weekend and he even landed a fairly large fish (see below).

The flies that worked best for us were a green lake dragon with a gold tail and a rust colored Jay Fair wiggle tail bugger.

Louie

Way to go Louie!!!! But aren't you a little ashamed of yourself for turning your son into an addict? That grin is worth a million words and I bet Dad's behind the camera was even bigger!

Re:Eagle Lake Report 18 Years, 2 Months ago
Now most of you who know me know that I typically catch and release all of my fish. However, when I go to Eagle Lake, once a year, I like to keep one or two of the trout that I catch. On this trip, I wanted to give my son good odds on landing a fish so I fished with barbed hooks. Being a devout fly fisher I only used flies for trolling behind a boat. We landed a couple of fish and kept them not only because of the damage done by the barbed hook and the length of time that it took my seven year old son to land the fish but because those fish are so darned tastety.

Now, I'm affraid, the damage is done. I've turned him into a fish slayer. I don't know if I'll ever be able to change him from catch and keep to catch and release, like our fathers did for us I can only hope that he sees the light and releases all of his fish instead of being weak, like his old man who keeps a fish or two a year.

Hey Louie, glad to see you are getting out. We are going to have to find a time to get you, John and I out together, if we can find sitters for all the various kids.
