The Northern California Fly Fishing Board

Well I for one miss the old board and format flames and all very much.Did it get out of hand at times? Of course it did. There posts and flames that at times went too far but out of that format came some of the funnest times I have had over the past 10 years. At the end of the day you always knew you were among friends and everyone was always ready to help out with anything.I like the look of the new format, but the new policies and restrictions have taken much of the old zing out of this site, and that is alright because it is what most everyone wanted or at least what they asked for this board to become.

Hey Jeff (and others),

How do see the rules and guidelines having changed from the old format? What new restrictions are there? We have taken a hard line on anonymous personal attacks, but that really isn't different from the old board. There are more people moderating, so that fewer attacks are slipping by unnoticed, but I don't see that there are any new restrictions or policies. Admittedly, in the heat of the moment, things have been deleted that shouldn't have and mistakes have been made, but everyone who moderates tries to learn from those mistakes and not do let it happen again.

I know myself and the other moderators would appreciate your's and other's input on this.

Three years ago +, on March 31st, 2005, Carpy posted the following regarding Board Rules. Don't think much has changed since regarding the rules. Lot's of good fun can and does happen on this Board within the rules put forth long ago. To those longing for "the good old days", go fishing, and then post a report (with discretion), join us at the upcoming Bash, or just ask a questions about fly fishing. BTW, we will be having a steering Committee meeting at the BASH, so come and voice your opinion there about how we make this a better place.

"Ok folks this is what the FAQ's say's

"This is a fly fishing board, so naturally any post related to fly fishing is encouraged. However, this is also an online community of sorts, so we expect that off topic posts, or threads that veer off-topic, will occur frequently. We don't explicitly discourage these posts, as we are confident that most of our contributors are capable of exercising a reasonable amount of self-restraint. We do encourage the building of friendships, and we realize that there's more to life and friendships than fly fishing. We do discourage obscenity and personal attacks. Youngsters as well as adults read the board, so take that into consideration when choosing your words. The board administrators can and will, at their sole discretion, remove posts that cross the line."

Lately things have been getting out of hand and GM and I are going to put a stop to it. We can't read every post so we are asking everyone to help out and let us know when someone crosses that wavelike line.

If your thinking about flaming someone, do it via e-mail, not on the Board

If your thinking of putting a few political jabs in your post, it's going to be deleted and if you cry about censorship then we will just ban your IP address for a week or so to cool your heels.

If you make demeaning or mean spirited comments about other races, other sexes, or other fisher folks, then we are going to delete your post, and if you cry about censorship then we will just ban your IP address for a week or so to cool your heels.

If you put up a picture of a member of the fairer sex in skimpy attire, it will be deleted, same goes for animals procreating and if you cry about censorship then we will just ban your IP address for a week or so to cool your heels.

You get our drift? We have had enough and we are not going to take in anymore

We tried not to interfere in the past as we assumed that the folks posting were able to act responsible. To the 99% that do, you have our gratitude, To the 1% that crosses the line, your are now put on notice to stop.

If you think I am off base, then send me or GM an e-mail and we can discuss it off line. If I'm off base, then it time for me to move on.

Every year this happens just before the opener, but that no excuse. Some of the stuff that's been going on lately embarrasses me.

Why am I here - as has been stated before, I am this board. When I went away so did the lifeblood. Now I'm back and look - a pulse. I'll try and be around more often so you won't have to carry the load all by yourself anymore. Such a burden.

That's all I will say about this to you. I refuse to enter a battle of wits with the unarmed.

When my body wasn't falling apart and I was playing indoor soccer, I always got really annoyed at the folks that treated the matches like world cup matches... hard checks into the boards, yelling at teammates, cheap shots to the back of the legs. I would be thinking "hey, I'm just here to have a little run around and to have some fun, not to get injured or get in a fight".

Know what I mean?

See any parallels here?

I also hope it's as final as your clumsy words suggest. I'm done. I can only keep up a vicious quibble with faceless strangers for so long. I don't think I saw you at either of the bashes I've been to, nor any of the minis, nor in Alaska or elsewhere -- all those places and times when I was doing nothing board-related.
