Mercer's Poxyback PMD recipe? 18 Years, 2 Months ago
Been quite some time since I've seen a fly tying thread on this board...

In that spirit, anyone have the recipe for the Mercer's Poxyback PMD? Abdomen is light brown Buggy Nymph with a flashabou rib (midge size?), wingcase is turkey, thorax more dubbing and legs are partidge or hen, but what is the tail and what feather aftershaft does he use for the gills? Pheasant tail would certainly work for the tail but that would not be an exact match for commercial ties I have. Gills could be from pheasant body feathers but not sure.

Just curious if anyone had the complete pattern. TIA.

Wow, I like the looks of that. Put it on my favorites. Another Mercer fly that is extremely effective is the trigger nymph tied in olive.

Pretty close. Solves the puzzle about the gills but it appears that Orvis just uses PT for the tail and I know that is not what is used in the versions I have.

Regardless, thanks for the pointer.
