They burrow into streambanks, cause erosion, and carry diseases. The only good thing about them is that they supply fly tying material.

I got a year's supply for tying nymphs last weekend.

The one in the photo is obviously a female, but the males are usually about the same size and the red ones are usually a bit larger than the grey ones, but they all have hair and fur that makes great tying material.

At least they're fair game! And, cars seem to help to keep the population down.

I recently got this photograph from a friend in Tennesse who had gotten it from a friend in New York. I forwarded it to a couple of people I know. I got a responses that this picture was orginally taken in Atherton by a mutual friend. He owns a landscaping business and appearently squirrels have invaded the property of a client so he thins out them with a pellet gun. He found the action figures and posed the picture and sent it to a few friends. Now it has traveled all over and that is the rest of the story.
