Applegate, Rogue, Trinity, Klamath & Lower Sac Rpt 17 Years, 8 Months ago
This weekend we too advantage of the long weekend for a little fishing safari. All in all the fishing was pretty crappy, but we managed to get a few ones here or there.

Fri - Klamath - below the hatchery, water levels were changing and color was "tea" brown. We fished it with a guided and fished it hard. We only hooked one fish...seemed to be good size since he wouldn't come up, but it got off pretty quickly. Odd day of fishing, didn't get a single half pounder.

Sat - Applegate, water was low and gin clear. We fished the upper sections from Williams creek down to Murphy. Conclusion: water was too low and the fish moved out. We would fish a hole and then float over it to see what we could learn....only to learn there were no fish in 95% of the holes. We floated about 6 miles and only say 8 fish (2 pairs and set of 4 small half pounders). Later that evening we stopped by a local shop and heard everyone hasn't been doing well. The Applegate is too low and the Rogue still too high. If you go, maybe try the lower Applegate.

Sun - Gave up on Oregon and went back to the Trinity. We put in around Indian creek and hooked up on 4 fish immediately. Nice fiesty fish with a lot of silver. Another fellow hooked up on 4 fish in the pool below us. The rest of the day was sloooooow....nada, zip! Most fish appear to be in the upper sections as expected, but you'll run into a lot of beat up hatchery fish as well....and tons of people.

Mon. - Tired of the low numbers of fish we floated the lower sac. The day started out slow but picked up. Water levels are really low. Hooked up on around 25 fish, landing 14 or 15. Most were 12-14 inches, little small compared to the past, but the last fish of the day was a pig!...28 inches, caught on a 6wt, size 16 prince.

Great report. Man, the lower Sac sure seems to have been the be most consistently producing river this season!
