Pretty CDC Feathers 17 Years, 9 Months ago
Got to pluck a couple spoonies this evening, a drake and a hen. They were both young; probably their first season as adults. The drake did not yet have the mottled cinnamon flank feathers that are so rare and useful for spey collars, so I was a bit bummed. I had far less hope for finding interesting feathers on the hen, but as I dug into the CDC patch, I discovered these naturally barred feathers. Some have three bars, some have two, but they are a light tan or cream, and provide a striking contrast. The trout may not notice all that detail, but I sure do, and I love it! You never know where you will find a treasure, so keep your eyes open!

(BTW, they both had extremely thick preening patches. Might be a cold winter!)

I live in the city, but don't fit in,
You know it's a pity the shape I'm in.
Well, I've got no home, and I've got no choice,
Oh Lord have mercy on a country boy!
