I live in the SF bay area as well. Day trips are still a few hours out, but i often hit the mokelumne river out in the lodi area. Nice river, decent fishing and actually some big hatchery steelhead.
For weekends, Keep hitting the stanislaus, but get out of oakdale. drive another hour and get further up the sonora area. Much better fishing and much better scenery. Plus in the summer time, you can get up into the canyons and escape the heat a bit more.
