Interesting stuff Bjorn and it could be expanded to warm water fresh water fish as well, especially bluegill and crappie. No, I am NOT writing this tongue-in-cheek. I fish one small but fairly deep lake here in Mendocino County. I have noted that in the spring I catch a LOT of very big bluegill (some up in the 9" or bigger range) and have caught some super big crappie (3+ lbs) as well. I stopped using a 3wt rod on these fish for two reasons. One, because they are much bigger than the norm I have to fight them longer to get them tamed and to hand. Two, I have noticed several times large black bass chasing, and in one case in sight, catching and eating these fish. So I went to a 5wt where I can horse them a lot more, get them in and let them loose with minimal stress. It's the hookup that counts anyway.
