Let the spending & saving for begin! 8-) 15 Years, 10 Months ago
So, I am now starting to build a relationship with my local Fly Shop and made my 1st purchase today. Let the money spending and saving for process begin for this newbie. I purchased from Nevada City Anglers a nice pair of SIMMS boots and also measured up for some SIMMS waders. I have to get a made to fit for the waders as I am short, chunky, and have small ass feet <grin>. The wader part is fine but my feet are only 7 mens and the waders that will fit me show normal foot size of 9 to 11. I wish! hehehe. So, this SIMMS can be special ordered with the right size sock so I will end up going with their cheapest option, which is not cheap, but will work at $350 later. At the rate I will probably get to fish the wader should last me many years so I figure do it right and it will all work out.

So, I am sure I will be visiting my local shop often in these early stages of getting into Fly Fishing. I am getting ready to take their classes early next year and also, next week, go check out our local Fly Club.

Should be fun. I think this collecting gear stage is almost as much fun as it will be to fish. Although my check-book will not be happy.

Hey Amishman....hope you didn't take my comment above as sarcasm....just relating what I did with my first set of expensive breathable waders.

Nope, none taken.

I tend to stay out of the bushes anyway as poison oak and me do not get along.

You could always buy a pair of wet-wading socks and forego waders for now.
Heck, I've never met an Amish person wearing waders anyway. And I hope you do not plan to use one of them new-fangel graphite rods, you'd better go with bamboo - might want to think of making it yourself too.

I bet your horse can take you to some great remote water that most of us are too lazy to hike to.

"Rivers course through my dreams, rivers cold and fast, rivers well-known and rivers nameless, rivers that seem like ribbons of blue water twisting through wide valleys, narrow rivers folded in layers of darkening shadow, rivers that have eroded down deep in a mountain's belly, sculpted the land, peeled back the planet's history exposing the texture of time itself."
— Harry Middleton (Rivers of Memory)

"Each night as I haul myself onto the back of county garbage truck no. 2, there is a familiar wind, some thread of moonglow or starlight, a splatter of dark rain on my skin, something that stirs my memory, and again, if even for a brief moment, I am on some mountain river, some stretch of bright water, full of possibilities, including the possibility of trout, perhaps one that, when hooked, will haul me in and out of time, in and out of life's mysterious and frightening, wondrous and incomprehensible continuum, even to the edges of the universe." -- Harry Middleton
