a rod is nothing but a tool,

and only a poor craftsman blames the tool.

I am sure most of the manufacturers have really great and to a certain extent fairly equal rods in the various lines they carry, so find what works best for you for the type of fishing; i.e. type of action and weight
then buy one..

Believe it or not, I've never parking lot casted a rod. For most of my fishing a medium action 9 to 9'6" rod is my pick and the Chico Fly shop has always had a line of Medium action rods.
